To say that the 2023-24 season for PLNU athletics was record-breaking would be a massive understatement.

During the 50th anniversary of NCAA Division II and Point Loma’s 10th since making the full-time switch from the NAIA, PLNU set several department records.

Point Loma won five PacWest Conference championships and sent eight teams to NCAA Regionals, both the most in school history.

The historic year began with a stellar fall season, which saw all four PLNU teams competing qualify for NCAA Regionals and three finish atop the conference.

Nov. 11, 2023, will go down as a day to remember in PLNU athletics folklore as women’s soccer, men’s soccer and women’s volleyball all clinched conference titles on the same day.

Men’s soccer and women’s volleyball won PacWest championships for the first time ever, with men’s soccer winning its conference for the first time in program history and picking up its first-ever NCAA postseason victory.

Women’s soccer won the PacWest championship for the fourth time in five years, cementing its dynasty in the conference. But the team was just getting started.

They went on to win the West Region and the NCAA Division II National Championship, the school’s first NCAA national title in any sport.

The fall served as foreshadowing on what would be a historic year, as the Sea Lions’ success continued into the winter and spring seasons.

Men’s basketball and baseball went on to win their third-straight PacWest titles.

Women’s basketball returned to the NCAA West Regional for the first time since 2016-17.

Women’s tennis made a third-straight West Regional appearance, hosting the regional for the first time. Men’s tennis made a second consecutive regional appearance for the first time in program history.

Track & field head coach Jerry Arvin capped off his legendary coaching career by leading discus thrower Anessa Chirgwin to a 10th-place individual finish at the NCAA Championships.

Throughout its time in NCAA Division II, Point Loma has proven itself to be one of the premier athletic programs not only in the West but in the nation.

If this past year is any indicator, the future is only up from here.
