For the very first time, the Bob Hogue Commissioner’s Cup trophy is coming to The Point.

Point Loma won the award that honors the athletic department with the best overall performance in the PacWest based on average conference finish. PLNU had a score of 12.36 which was nearly two points higher than second-placed Azusa Pacific (10.58).

“Winning the Bob Hogue Commissioner’s Cup is a testament to the extraordinary dedication of our coaches, student-athletes, and staff at Point Loma Nazarene,” Athletic Director Jordan Courneya said. “This achievement reflects their relentless pursuit of excellence, both on and off the field and courts, and the unwavering commitment to our mission.”

The Sea Lions tied a department record, set just last year, with five PacWest regular season championships in 2024-25. Those five conference championships led the PacWest each of the last two years, despite PLNU offering just 11 of the 15 total conference-sponsored sports. PLNU Men’s Soccer, Women’s Soccer, Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, and Women’s Tennis all won PacWest titles this year.

Point Loma Volleyball and Baseball finished in second place in the conference standings, while Women’s Cross Country and Men’s Tennis placed third at their respective PacWest Championships.

“I want to especially honor Ethan Hamilton, whose visionary leadership and passion for this department set the foundation for our success,” Courneya said. “His legacy continues to inspire us, and this accomplishment is a reflection of the lasting impact he made on our entire campus community.”

The Sea Lions also claimed tournament titles in women’s soccer, men’s basketball and women’s basketball, which were not factored into the Commissioner’s Cup points total.

The eight PacWest trophies won this year set a new PLNU record. Ten PLNU teams competed in the NCAA postseason, the most in department history, with three reaching the Round of 16 in the national tournament. Point Loma had previously finished second in the Bob Hogue Commissioner’s Cup standings in three of the past four years.

“I am incredibly proud to lead this exceptional group of coaches, student-athletes and administrative staff,“ Courneya said. “We are grateful for the continued success our athletics department has been able to achieve.”
